Hello and welcome!
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the beginning of my Ghost of Yotei pre-order coverage.
I'm going to be walking you through the entire build-up to the pre-order day which, if you need a quick reminder, is tomorrow!
Very few retailers have listing pages live quite yet but with pre-orders set to begin first in the UK, all eyes are on the likes of Amazon and Argos as we draw closer to the day.
I'll also be keeping you abreast with the situation in the US, where GameStop already has a listing page up and ready. You can't pre-order the game there yet, but that's one page to bookmark ahead of time.
With that said, let's start!
What's the fuss all about?
Set in 1603, Ghost of Yotei is the standalone follow-up to the smash hit Ghost of Tsushima.
You play as a new warrior who adopts the Ghost moniker - Atsu - as she embarks on a journey of revenge in the picturesque setting rural Japan.
The story begins when her family is killed by a roaming band of outlaws, the infamous Yotei Six. Hunting them down one by one, Atsu forges relationships with unlikely allies and, eventually, develops a new sense of purpose.
Watch the latest trailer
PlayStation released a new trailer for Ghost of Yotei just over a week ago, which introduces you to the story and showcases some stunning in-engine cinematics.
You also get a few glimpses at the world, plus some combat and traversal. It's the perfect thing if you want to get hyped for the game ahead of the pre-order date, so check it out below.

Do you have to play Ghost of Tsushima first?
If you haven't played Ghost of Tsushima before, then you might be wondering whether experience with that prior game is needed to enjoy Ghost of Yotei.
If that's you, then you might be glad to hear that this is not the case. Ghost of Yotei is set more than 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima, so it's not a sequel in the traditional sense. Rather, it seems to follow the same general themes and, of course, features a warrior known by the name 'Ghost'.
Sony has also described the game as "a standalone experience" - which would indicate that no play time in Ghost of Tsushima is needed in order to enjoy it to the fullest.
That said, you might still want to try Ghost of Tsushima if you haven't played it before. As the game is a few years old now, it's readily available and frequently discounted.
I'd recommend picking up the PS5 Director's Cut version, which packs in all of the DLC and the game's online multiplayer mode plus a wealth of technical upgrades.
Check out some great deals on the game below.
Catch up with the announcement trailer
I've just shared the most recent trailer, but if you want even more Ghost of Yotei video action then I would recommend going back to the announcement trailer from seven months ago.
It was our first look at the game, revealing the change of setting and showing us Atsu for the very first time. It's a great little trailer so, even if you've seen it before, it's well worth watching again if you have a spare few minutes.

Keen to snag the pre-order bonuses?
If you're just tuning if with my live coverage and are wondering why you might want to pre-order Ghost of Yotei rather than wait until launch day, then I've got you covered.
If you pre-order any edition of the game, you will get the following pre-order bonuses:
- A unique in-game mask
- Seven PSN avatars
You can also see the bonuses for yourself in the image above.
While I think the in-game mask is a little underwhelming, I am a big fan of the avatars. These are available instantly if you pre-order via the PlayStation Store too, which is quite cool and lets you show your love for the series on your account in the build up to launch.
Those who pick up the physical versions of the game will get them as a voucher code on release day.
Physical box art revealed
Last week, a PlayStation Blog post showed off the Ghost of Yotei box art for the first time (pictured above).
It shows Atsu kneeled in front of a mountain (likely Mount Yotei) surrounded by six sword planted in the ground - perhaps a reference to the six main antagonists you will slay in the game's story?
It's a really nice looking box overall in my opinion, and I do really like the contrast between the white snowy mountain and yellow of the leaves and Atsu's outfit.
A small note on the image does state that this art is not final, so just bear in mind that the physical copy you receive may look slightly different to this.
Can I play Ghost of Yotei on PS4 or PC?
Unfortunately if you're sticking with Sony's old console you won't be able to play Ghost of Yotei, as the game is currently set to release as a PS5 exclusive. A PS4 port is extremely unlikely.
There's a decent chance that the game will eventually make its way to PC, Ghost of Tsushima did after all, but this will most probably be a few years after the PS5 launch - if it happens at all...
Mark your calendars, Ghost of Yotei launches on October 2, 2025. If you pre-order the game digitally, you'll be able to play it right away.
For those with physical pre-orders, it might take a little longer to get your hands on the game - but depending on your choice of retailer it will likely land on release date.
The PlayStation store page reveals some of the activities that you may be able to experience in Ghost of Yotei.
The game focuses on the "cultural beauty of Japan," letting you bathe in an onsen (hot spring), visit shrines in order to pray, and try traditional Sumi-e painting.
Combat is also a big focus, with intense battles that challenge you to experiment with an arsenal of different weapons. You can learn skills, including powerful unlockable strikes and the ability to disarm enemies in battle.
Other upcoming PS5 exclusives
Many PS5 owners are looking forward to Ghost of Yotei as it is a PS5 exclusive. Published by Sony and developed by a PlayStation studio, it looks like it's going to take full advantage of the PS5's hardware and unique features.
There aren't that many other PS5 exclusives on the horizon, though the intriguing Death Stranding 2 is set to also release later this year. There are also some smaller exclusive titles to bear in mind, like Lost Soul Aside.
You can browse a full list of upcoming PS5 exclusives to see whether any other games take your fancy below.

PS5 hardware features detailed
Speaking of PS5 hardware, the Ghost of Yotei store page details how the game uses some of the console's features.
Ghost of Yotei will support Tempest 3D Audiotech, with 3D spatial audio creating a more immersive experience as you explore with supported speakers or headphones.
The console's SSD also brings fast loading times, which should cut down on the waiting time as you navigate between different areas.
The store page also boasts that the game has "stunning visuals" with "lush, vibrant landscapes" to discover.
There is also some information on the supported DualSense Wireless Controller features.
The adaptive triggers are used for the in-game bow and arrow, grappling hook, and during battle.
Haptic feedback has also been implemented, helping you feel the impact of each strike in battle.
If you're reading this, then there's a high chance that you're a real PlayStation fan.
If you're PlayStation Plus member, then you can claim Ark: Survival Ascended, Balatro, and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun this month.
Balatro is available only on the PS5, while Ark: Survival Ascended and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun are up for grabs on both PS5 and PS4.
We're nearing the end of the day here in the UK, so I'm going to head out for the evening shortly!
But don't worry, I'll be back first thing tomorrow with a barrage of new updates and everything that you need to know as pre-orders begin to go live.
I'll see you then...
The first pre-order page is live!
In the UK, Amazon is now offering a Ghost of Yotei pre-order a few hours before that 10AM kick off time - cheeky!
It's at retail price, so £69.99, and is covered by the retailers pre-order price guarantee. For me, it's showing the option of delivery from October 4, but this will vary depending on your location.
- Ghost of Yotei: £69.99 at Amazon
HMV has arrived on the scene, and is the cheapest option right now
Now this is a surprise!
HMV has gone live with its pre-orders early too and has the game up for a slight discount! You can pick it up for £62.99 and, before you ask, that does include free UK delivery.
Free click and collect is also available, which might be worthwhile if you prefer to get it in a store but want the option to pay online in advance.
The page also confirms that you will receive the pre-order bonuses.
- Ghost of Yotei: £62.99 at Amazon
I'm not seeing much other retailer action, but there's still time to go
Aside from Amazon and HMV, I'm not seeing any other major retailers jumping in on the pre-order action quite yet.
Still, this isn't particularly surprising, as pre-orders are technically meant to start at 10AM - that's about 40 minutes away.
I'm expecting the likes of Currys, Argos, and Very to go live at that time, with the official PlayStation Store joining in too.
Still no word on Collector's Edition pricing in the UK
I'm searching around for official word on the Collector's Edition pricing in the UK, but can't find anything yet. Sony has stated that it will cost $249.99 in the US, but left the UK price up in the air.
Some sources online are claiming that it will go for £249.99 - which would definitely make sense. Sony often aims for similar looking prices across both the US and UK (even if the exchange rate does make the UK price a bit of a worse deal).
Still, I'm not seeing anything on this from Sony itself, so it's not confirmed yet. I suspect we'll only find out how much it costs for certain when pre-orders go live at the PlayStation Store this morning.
One retailer is offering the Asian version
If you're keen to get your hands on an imported Asian version of the game, then specialist retailer PlayAsia has you covered.
This edition should work on all PS5 consoles worldwide and offer the English language, but I would definitely double check that if you're inclined to buy.
It costs £65.36, but that doesn't include any shipping. I've ordered from PlayAsia a few times, and paid about £20 for postage to UK - though there is a cheaper option available if you don't mind waiting a few weeks.
That said, this added expense does mean that I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who isn't a dedicated collector.
When is the Ghost of Yotei release date?
It's important to keep the release date of a game in mind when you're placing a pre-order. After all, that is the earliest day that you're going to be able to play the game that you've already spent some money on.
As a quick refresher, the Ghost of Yotei release date is October 2, 2025.
Some retailers should offer pre-order delivery on release day, or at the very least a few days afterwards. Definitely check your delivery options and go with the retailer that has the fastest shipping when you place your pre-order.
The calm before the storm...
A small handful of retailers are already live, but with the main pre-order period set to being in exactly ten minutes in the UK - we're definitely in the calm before the storm right now.
I'll be frantically refreshing retailers as we get closer to that 10AM start time and let you know as each one puts its listing live...
Game has gone live
Specialist retailer Game has been a bit slow on the pre-order train as of late, but it looks like it's among one of the first to put up Ghost of Yotei pre-orders.
The game is now up for pre-order on the official website at retail price, so check out the listing below.
- Ghost of Yotei: £69.99 at Game
The big one is here! PlayStation Direct is live
The official PlayStation Direct store now has Ghost of Yotei up for pre-order.
We can also now confirm that the Ghost of Yotei Collector's Edition, which is up for grabs too, goes for £219.99 - that's actually a little less than I was expecitng!
Head over there ASAP if you want to secure it, as demand will likely be high.
- Ghost of Yotei: £69.99 at PS Direct
- Ghost of Yotei Collector's Edition: £219.99 at PS Direct
ShopTo joins in too
You might not have heard of ShopTo, but its a game retailer that I really rate. It has a fantastic rewards scheme and is one of my go-to destination for all things PlayStation - particularly PS Store vouchers when they offer big discounts.
There is currently a pre-order page up for Ghost of Yotei, so definitely give it a look.
- Ghost of Yotei: £69.85 at ShopTo
The Game Collection is live - and surprisingly cheap!
The Game Collection has just gone live with its Ghost of Yotei pre-orders, and it looks like we have a new cheapest option around. Right now you can secure yours for just £64.95.
Not quite as good a deal as HMV's offering, but £5 discount on RRP is likely going to be pretty hard to beat given that the game isn't even out yet! Check out the listing below for all the details.
- Ghost of Yotei: £64.95 at The Game Collection
Very is live too!
A quick update here: Very has gone live with its Ghost of Yotei (or "Ghost of Y????tei" as the store page calls it for some reason) pre-orders.
The game can be yours for retail price with free standard delivery with click and collect thrown in.
- Ghost of Yotei: £69.99 at Very
Where are Argos and Currys?
I almost can't believe that Argos and Currys, usually two of the most reliable retailers when it comes to game pre-orders, haven't gone live with pages for Ghost of Yotei yet.
Hopefully the listings will pop up in the minutes to come. I'm keeping a close eye on the websites and will let you know once they do.
Did you get one?

Tag us in a post on X / Twitter and tell us which edition you chose for a chance to be featured on this very page!
Don't forget the digital options!
The listings are also now up for digital pre-orders on the digital PS Store in the UK.
You can get the Standard Edition for £69.99 (though at that price, my preference would definitely be the physical) or, more interestingly, the Digital Deluxe Edition for £79.99.
This digital exclusive version comes packed with extra content, including new armour, dyes, a special horse and saddle, and some early unlocks to boost your progress.
Digital purchases will also be unlocked at midnight on launch day, letting you dive in right out of the gate.
Breaking news: GTA 6 release date confirmed!
Sorry to interrupt all the Ghost of Yotei pre-order coverage, but if you own a PS5 then you're most likely going to want to hear this.
Rockstar Games has finally given us a release date for Grand Theft Auto 6, but it's later than we thought it would be. Having previously confirmed a 2025 release window, we now know that the game will release in May 2026.
Check out all the details and read Rockstar's reasons for the delay in our full report below.

Attention begins to turn to the US...
If you're just joining me from the US, there are just a few hours to go until Ghost of Yotei pre-orders begin in the region. There are no listings that I can see live quite yet, but I will keep checking and let you know when the first ones crop up.
If the UK is anything to go by, we will start seeing listings go live a few hours before that official 10AM start time so it's worth keeping your eye on this page for updates.
Walmart is live... sort of
A listing for Ghost of Yotei has appeared at Walmart, though it currently shows as out of stock.
I'm not sure whether there was a flash of pre-order stock that sold out quickly, or if the stock will only become available at 10AM.
Either way, you should keep an eye on the listing page below.
- Ghost of Yotei: $69.99 at Walmart (out of stock)
Just under half an hour to go now until everything truly kicks off in the US!
Pre-orders are up at GameStop!
Ghost of Yotei pre-orders are currently up at GameStop! The retailer is offering the Standard Edition of the game at its retail price.
The listing seems a little finicky - and has appeared as out of stock a few times for me so far - but if you keep refreshing it you should be given the option to buy.
- Ghost of Yotei: $69.99 at GameStop
Walmart is now offering pre-orders too!
Just a few minutes after GameStop went live, Walmart has decided to get in on the action. Right now you can pick up a Standard Edition pre-order for $69.99.
This pre-order is covered by the retailers pre-order price guarantee, and includes free shipping - which might be a compelling reason to choose to buy it here.
- Ghost of Yotei: $69.99 at Walmart
Big news! The Collector's Edition is up in the US
I've got some huge news if you are trying to get your hands on the PS Direct exclusive Ghost of Yotei Collector's Edition - namely the fact that it's now available to pre-order in the US!
Run, don't walk, over to PS Direct to place your pre-order. It costs $249.99 and comes crammed with the following goodies:
- Digital copy of the game
- Digital Deluxe Edition items (see below)
- Pre-order content
- Replica display edition of Atsu's Ghost mask (and stand)
- Replica of Atsu's sash
- Replica Tsuba (and stand)
- Pouch of coins and instructions to play Zeni Hajiki, a Ghost of Yotei minigame
- Foldable papercraft ginkgo tree
- Four art cards
Here's where you can get it:
- Ghost of Yotei Collector's Edition: $249.99 at PS Direct
Neither Best Buy or Target have gone live with any Ghost of Yotei pre-orders yet. In fact, the two retailers don't even have listing pages for the game up at the time of writing which is quite surprising given their track records of pre-order excellence.
Hopefully these appear over the next few hours... At least there are now no shortage of other options to choose from in the US.
The physical edition floodgates may have just opened, but you should also bear in mind that the digital editions of Ghost of Yotei are live now in the US too.
You can pick up the Standard Edition for $69.99, or splash out for the $79.99 Digital Deluxe Edition if you want to get your hands on some extra in-game goodies.
No matter which version you choose, you will still get the pre-order bonuses.
Best Buy is live too!
It's about time, but Best Buy is finally live with its Ghost of Yotei pre-orders. Depending on your location, you might be able to get delivery on release day - which makes this a great way to buy.
- Ghost of Yotei: $69.99 at Best Buy
There's still no activity over at Target, which is a little strange. I will keep an eye on the website and let you know when I spot even just a hint of a pre-order listing.
The best places to pre-order over the weekend
It's nearing the end of the day here in the UK, so I'm going to start wrapping things up on the Ghost of Yotei pre-order front.
If you're only just tuning in to my live coverage (or reading this some time over the weekend) and just want to quickly see your best options, then I've got you covered.
For those in the US:
- Collector's Edition: pre-order now for $249.99 at PS Direct
- Standard Edition: pre-order now for $69.99 at Best Buy
If you're after the Collector's Edition, then there's only one place to go in the US - as it's a PlayStation Direct exclusive.
For the Standard Edition, I'd go with Best Buy. The retailer is offering release day delivery (though this may vary depending on your location) which means that you won't have to sit around waiting to dive in for too long once the game is out in the wild.
For those in the UK:
- Collector's Edition: pre-order now for £219.99 at PS Direct
- Standard Edition: pre-order now for £62.90 at HMV
As in the US, there's only one page to visit if you're after the Collector's Edition. As a PlayStation Direct exclusive, that's where you need to head if you want it.
For the Standard Edition, I'd head to music giant HMV. The unlikely retailer has it at the lowest price around right now - a whopping £7.09 below the RRP.
That might not sound like a huge saving, but it's pretty substantial discount for a game that hasn't even been released yet.
Free delivery is also included (though it is UK only) and the order will be dispatched ahead of the release date - so likely arrive bang on time.
